Yesterday in Charleston, 50 students and citizens showed up in Marion Square to protest the construction of a new coal-fired power plant by state-owned utility Santee Cooper.
Up in Asheville, where they’re a little closer to the mountains that are destroyed to make the plants possible, they’re willing to take it a step farther. Duke Energy has an 800-megawatt coal facility planned in Rutherford County. To protest it, six activists chained themselves to the construction machinery yesterday morning.
