I’m not sure who’s behind the South Carolina Citizen Journal, other than her name is Pear Jones, but I like what she’s doing.

One recent post suggested an energy competition between school districts.

Citizen Journal would like to see every South Carolina school district institute a yearly competition, within each school district, between schools, of which school can use the least energy throughout the school year(per capita), with some sort of commensurate prize awarded to the winning school.

Such a competition will save school district resources, foster healthy competition between schools and can be used as a learning tool in a variety of disciplines as well.

What an awesome idea!

Another questions Jim DeMint’s campaigning for Mitt Romney, raising the question that taxpayers may be footing the bill. Another example of wishing I had time to go after every lead, or a whole team at City Paper to pursue this stuff!

“U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., will be campaigning on behalf of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney today in S.C. DeMint will greet voters in Greenville and the Lowcountry.”

This is the blurb from The State regarding our Senator’s swing through the state, talking the talk in support of his presidential candidate.

I’ve said before I have no problem with the Senator traveling on his own dime to do this, but what is it costing the taxpayers? Who in the Senator’s entourage is on the federal payroll? How many are traveling with him and are we paying for it all? It’s important that officials we as a state elect are clear that we expect them to have their own office’s finances in line with other efforts towards making government more efficient and less costly.

It is in the best interest of this goal that officials we elect to Washington start publishing their office’s budgets, along with a breakdown of the expenditures.

This, people, is what would be called walking the walk.

Sounds like a future story…
